Day 6 - Wednesday 9/16/2-15 - Seaside to Tilamook

No rain!  All day - no rain and not as cold.  So. . . off to the beach for Patty.  Well, cloudy, cool (57 degrees) - but what's a gal to do when there is a beach so close?  Feet in sand, that's what!  Just had to get that out there.
Back to the beginning - breakfast at the Pin'n Pancake in Seaside.  Great name, great food.  A walk away from the hotel and for the first time on the trip, all riders started pedaling from the hotel and ALL together.
Just what are those two grinning at?  Yes, the ones in the matching riding outfits-thinking somebody didn't read the memo?

The ride today took us through dairy pastures, inlets, bays and along the beach. A tunnel with a unique design and a home for sale with a unique address - any takers?  We started the route in Seaside following US 101 - Cannon Beach, Mazanita, Rockaway Beach, Garibaldi, Bay City (to name just a few) landing in Tillamook for the night.  Tomorrow we will head to Newport - 70 miles south.

Some climbs with spectacular views.

Riding Notes:
Today we were thankful for a weather man who blew the forecast.  We left Seaside prepared for and expecting rain, All the rain gear on board we were ready to persevere to Tillamook regardless of weather.  Since we were focused on the rain in our future, we kind of overlooked the fact that there were three fairly nasty climbs along the way.  We made it to Tillamook and rode 12 miles past the motel.  Along the way we had some great ocean views and enjoyed a cooler lunch at Rockaway Beach.  After lunch we rode a terrible section of road for several miles--it felt like it had been rotomilled but it fact it was just a bad paving job.  Bikes came out of adjustment and I think we'll need our Molar Mechanic friend in OC to replace the fillings we lost.  As I look out the window at 5:30 pm, I can see rain to the north.  We're headed south, so who knows what tomorrow will bring.

So the stats.  59 miles, 4 hours and 15 mins, a weak average speed of 13.7, with 2800 feet of climbing, and no elevation gain.

Puzzler for today - Ever since Bummer has been leaving posts, our crew of cyclists has been racking their brains trying to figure out who you are.  Some hints for these guys would be appreciated.  Something that might keep them up at night?

Kathy even had time to take her four legged traveling companions for a walk on the beach
We all made a trip to the Tillamook Cheese factory for ice cream.  Yes, yummy ice cream.  And, for the craft brew types, we finally found a brew house with a selection of brews.

And a tid-bit for the history buff in the group.  Who knew?

  1. I like Tillamook Cheese. I may have passed on ice cream for some good aged white extra sharp cheddar. Yum.
